Legal procedures for the application of the ZLECAf agreement are completed
The legal procedures and technical conditions necessary for Tunisia to implement the provisions of the Agreement on the African Continental Free Trade Area (ZLECAf) were completed on 6 April 2023 by the Directorate-General for Customs.

The Ministry of Trade and Export Development calls, in a communiqué, all economic actors, including exporters, importers, distributors and all those interested in the African market, wishing to carry out foreign trade operations under this continental agreement, to use the model certificate of origin of the “ZLECAf” agreement.

This certificate, which is a key element of the free trade agreement negotiations and determines for the country, can be issued by the Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

This certificate is used to prove the origin of the goods to satisfy customs or commercial requirements and attests that they originate in Tunisia.

This measure will enable economic operators to benefit from the advantages of the progressive abolition of customs duties and charges having equivalent effect, on the basis of reciprocity.

As a reminder, Tunisia joined the “Guided Trade” initiative launched on October 7, 2022 by the Secretariat of the Continental Free Trade Area (ZLECAf) on the occasion of the 10th meeting of the Council of Ministers responsible for Trade of this agreement, October 7-8, 2022 in Accra, Ghana.

Tunisia is one of the first eight African countries (Egypt, Ghana, Cameroon, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania and Mauritius) that are preparing to launch ZLECAf, as part of this initiative
